The Iranian Nation Sustains the Path of Ashura through Conscious Presence

On the first night of Muharram, coinciding with a public gathering in support of Islamic Iran at Sanandaj's Azadi Square, Hojjat-al-Islam Mahmoud Safizadeh, a faculty member at the University of Kurdistan, delivered a speech highlighting the philosophy of the divine prophets' mission. He identified the role of the people as the most critical factor in achieving justice and confronting tyranny.

Expressing his condolences on the arrival of Muharram and the mourning period for Imam Hussain (AS), he stated: "The primary objective of all divine prophets has been the establishment of equity and justice in society; however, the realization of this goal is impossible without the active presence and cooperation of the people." The University of Kurdistan faculty member noted that divine prophets were tasked with awakening humanity and inviting them to struggle against oppression and arrogance. He added: "Throughout history, whenever the people have been present on the scene, the front of truth has prevailed. Conversely, whenever the people distanced themselves from their responsibilities, the objectives of the prophets and divine saints faced serious obstacles."

Referring to the status of the Iranian nation in the thought of Imam Khomeini (RA) and the Supreme Leader, Safizadeh asserted: "The Iranian nation possesses distinguished characteristics due to its insight, loyalty, and continuous presence in various arenas, repeatedly proving its commitment to defending the ideals of the Islamic Revolution at strategic historical junctures." He continued: "The Islamic Revolution, the Sacred Defense, and the country's successful navigation of various crises are all results of the people's presence—a presence accompanied by faith, awareness, and adherence to the leadership (Wilayah), which has secured significant achievements for the nation."

Highlighting the event of Ashura as the greatest historical lesson for Islamic societies, he remarked: "One of the most significant factors behind the tragedy of Karbala was the indifference and lack of public support for the Imam of the time. The people of Kufa, who had pledged allegiance to Imam Hussain (AS) based on fleeting emotions, abandoned the field at the moment of trial, paving the way for the martyrdom of the grandson of the Prophet (PBUH)." He emphasized: "Popular presence is effective only when accompanied by rationality, knowledge, and insight; for passion without intellect and emotion without awareness will not withstand the doubts and pressures imposed by the enemy."

Safizadeh noted that the Ashura movement is not a limited historical event but a school for all generations and all free people of the world, with its messages continuing to guide nations in the path of confronting oppression and arrogance. Regarding the current regional and global conditions, he described the Iranian nation as the successor to the path of Ashura, adding: "In the contemporary era, the Iranian people have shown they spare no sacrifice in supporting Islam, the Revolution, and the leadership, having learned the culture of self-sacrifice, resistance, and martyrdom from the school of the Master of Martyrs (AS)."

Furthermore, referencing the martyrdom of commanders and defenders of the Islamic Revolution, he stated: "The blood of the martyrs has always awakened the nation and strengthened the spirit of resistance, bringing the people to the scene with redoubled motivation to defend the ideals of the Islamic Revolution." In conclusion, stressing the necessity of maintaining unity, insight, and conscious presence, he declared: "The Iranian nation stands before a historical test today. Just as it has guarded the Revolution and Islamic values over the past years, it will continue the path of national dignity and authority in the future, relying on faith, loyalty to the leadership, and the culture of Ashura."
